Kenya Airways beats South Africa Airways ( SAA ) as 2016 WTA best airline in Africa .

Nairobi : Kenya Airways has been named Africa's leading airline 2016 ,  snatching the title from South African Airways who have hit for the last 22 years.

The 23rd World Travel Awards, voted for by travel and tourism professionals worldwide, saw the winners announced at the Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony hosted by La Gemma dell'Est in Zanzibar, Tanzania .

Kenya Airways was also named the African Airline with the best business class offering. Ethiopian Airlines was named best in Economy, while fastjet.com pipped local low-cost carriers Mango and kulula as Africa's best low-cost carriers.

OR Tambo was also named the Best Airport in Africa over and above Cape Town International and King Shaka International as well other competitors which included Cairo International Airport, Egypt, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and  Mohammed V International Airport, Morocco.

Kenya’s Hon. Dr. Amina C. Mohammed best suited for the position of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission after live debate held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The African Union, through its African Union Leadership Academy (AULA) convened the first ever leadership debate for candidates contesting for the position of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on 9 December 2016 where Kenya’s Hon. Dr. Amina C. Mohammed emerged best for grasp of what bewailing the continent .

The debate held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and conducted before a live audience comprising members of the African Union Executive Council; members of Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC), African Union Commissioners; media personnel and invited guests.

It is the first time such a debate has been organised by the AU but the actual decision will be made by African heads of state next January.

The debate gives the candidates the "opportunity to present their various perspectives in the area of leading the continental agenda for the upcoming four years," the AU commission said on its website.

Summary of 2016 KCPE Results

Highest candidate this year scored 436 marks out of 500 while last year the best candidate scored 449 marks. 5190 candidates scored 400 and above marks. All candidates who scored 400 and above will be admitted in national schools of their choice.

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has released the 2016 KCPE exam results.
In the results released at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi, the top candidate scored 436 out of 500 marks and only 5,190 obtained over 400 marks.
This is a drop of 2,000 candidates, or 31 percent, compared with 2015, when over 7,000 scored 400 marks and above.

KCPE Results 2016 – No Cheating

And for the first time in Kenya’s KCPE history, Dr Matiang’i said all candidates would receive their results as there was not a single case of cheating.
Only 21 cases of malpractices and attempted cheating were reported across the country, he said.
But Dr Matiang’i failed to meet the expectations of the nation when he announced that ranking of schools and candidates was not effected, saying the law ordering return to the old tradition took effect late.

KCPE Results 2016 – President Uhuru Kenyatta Briefed

President Kenyatta assented to the 2016 Kenya National Examination (Amendment) Act in late August and came into effect in October.
Before heading to KICD, Dr Matiang’i briefed President Kenyatta on the results at State House, Nairobi.
Some 952, 021 candidates wrote the tests from November 1 to November 3 — an evaluation that marks the transition from primary to secondary schools.
Of these, 50.3 percent were boys. A total of 1,950 special needs candidates sat for the exams, with the top managing 421 marks.

KCPE Results 2016 – Exam Fees

The Cabinet secretary said, starting next year, the government will pay KCPE exams fees for all candidates in both private and public schools.
And in addition to the ongoing efforts to curb cheating, Dr Matiang’i said all private candidates will have to write their tests from centres approved by the Education ministry.

KCPE Results 2016 – Form One Selection

Dr Matiang’i said Form One selection begins immediately and that letters of admission would be given to students before December 25.
He said selection process to join Form One will be finalized by December 9.
The CS added that the first batch of students to join Form One will be admitted to respective secondary schools on January 9, 2017.

AIDS DAY ......This year's theme is 'Hands Up for #HIV Prevention'

Every year there is a theme for World AIDS Day. This year's theme is 'Hands Up for #HIV Prevention' which "aims to emphasize the different aspects of HIV prevention and what it means for specific groups of people". Individual countries can also choose to interpret the themes in their own ways.

" Today, we commemorate World AIDS Day—we stand in solidarity with the 78 million people who have become infected with HIV and remember the 35 million who have died from AIDS-related illnesses since the first cases of HIV were reported. "

World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pendamic  caused by the spread of  HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease. Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.


The theme of this year's event is Hands up for HIV Prevention. The campaign looks at ways to improve prevention strategies, identifying key areas among specific groups of people who are vulnerable to transmission – adolescent girls and young women in particular.

Cuba's Fidel Castro dead aged 90

Cuba's former president Fidel Castro, one of the world's longest-serving and most iconic leaders, has died aged 90.

His younger brother and successor as president Raul Castro announced the news on state television.


Castro toppled the government in 1959, introducing a Communist revolution. He defied the US for decades, surviving many assassination plots.


His supporters said he had given Cuba back to the people. Critics saw him as a dictator.

Throughout the Cold War, Fidel Castro was a thorn in Washington's side.

An accomplished tactician on the battlefield, he and his small army of guerrillas overthrew the military leader Fulgencio Batista in 1959 to widespread popular support.

Within two years of taking power, he declared the revolution to be Marxist-Leninist in nature and allied the island nation firmly to the Soviet Union.

Despite the constant threat of a US invasion as well as the long-standing economic embargo on the island, Castro managed to maintain a communist revolution in a nation just 90 miles (145km) off the coast of Florida.

Despised by his critics as much as he was revered by his followers, he maintained his rule through 10 US presidents and survived scores of attempts on his life by the CIA.

He established a one-party state, with hundreds of supporters of the Batista government executed.

Political opponents have been imprisoned, the independent media suppressed. Thousands of Cubans have fled into exile.

Sadly the award-winning journalist Jeff Koinange just left KTN, and Kenya's most watched television show  calls it quits on the best Kenya's Television Channel.

I felt it profoundly when Jeff said  at the end of his final show he was hosting singers Sinach and Emmy Kosgey on Inspiration Thursday .“anyone who felt offended by the show between the two personalities should understand that its hard to control a live show but I apologise to anyone who felt aggrieved,” .

He further said  “thank you Kenya, 300 episodes and 10 million viewers for every episode is inspiring. We appreciate you. We will be back on another channel and will be bigger, just ensure you follow us on our social media accounts”. 

Jeff however promised to be back on air soon but on a different channel.

Robert Mugabe announces retirement

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has hinted at possibly stepping down.

During a meeting with veterans of the country’s war of independence, the 91-year-old said that if he was to retire, he would do so properly.

Mugabe claims there are factions within the ruling party plotting to replace him. The president has also admitted the country’s economy is in crisis. However, he’s defended his performance as president.

The 92-year-old has ruled Zimbabwe since 1987.

Contrast of the two continents ......USA and Africa.

USA must be doing a thing different from AU that makes the former unique and  excellent in many fronts .

  For instance....... According to a Unicef report on the BBC, 33% of children (one child in three) are subjected to child labor in Sub-Saharan Africa  with numerous children  , victims of trafficking, labor or sexual exploitation, mainly in markets, quarries or fields", according to a UN News report.

America may not be a perfect place, but their children are not forced into child marriage because of privation.   It is a crime in America to subject a 6-year old to domestic labor. In Africa, it is a matter of survival.   

In America, government programs like WIC and Food Stamps serve as a safety net for poor children to get basic nutrition, not to mention the support from churches and local charities.

  Everything that cannot be allowed to happen to a child in America happens to children in Africa.

They beg for food. They go to bed hungry. They starve to death.   They drop out of school to fend for themselves.   I can name dozens of children who are starving in my village; who are smart, but who are forced to drop out of school because of hunger.  


America has children's hospitals everywhere.   Even children from poor families are guaranteed basic medical treatment. They don't have to die from preventable diseases.   In my hometown, on the other hand, countless numbers of children have died from easily preventable diseases for lack of medical facilities.

Thirdway Alliance is transparent .

Thirdway Alliance’s mission is transparent; their call on the 2017  general Elections is real and not like the hired sabotages springing in various opposition regions clearly with ulterior motives.

 They are not sneaking   in Opposition zones with aim to sabotage Hon Raila and the main CORD affiliate Party ODM operations. 

A case among many, now Dr Mutua, Machakos Governor  had earlier stated that he would neither support Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) nor Jubilee in the next elections, when he was drumming for chap chap , but  “ seemed to make an about-turn in his speech during a meeting between Ukambani leaders and President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto  “ according to Citizen Tv reported  “We are not here for government positions or money, or envelops, or briefcases. We are here on behalf of the people of Ukambani. We do not want to be leaders of the poor,” said Mutua.

He further said “We want unity that will help us forge forward. We will hold your hand during the elections because we are people of a stand and we will not be swayed.”

The announcement that caused discomfort within Mutua’s Wiper Democratic Movement where he  lost support over his close working relations with Jubilee.

The issue was escalated by the Governor’s launch of Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement with some leaders within Wiper pushing for his expulsion from the party.

In his defense, Mutua stated that he offered no rivalry to Wiper nor supremacy battle with the party leader Kalonzo Musyoka saying Maendeleo Chap Chap is strictly a movement aimed at championing for development not just in Machakos but across the country………..Double speak can still leave one’s  intentions exposed !

 Dr Ekuru Aukot is different, as one lawyer who helped draw up the Constitution of Kenya in 2010, popularly referred to as the New Constitution, has returned to seek employment from Kenyans as its 'custodian.'   He charged that the current leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta has "torn the country right up in the middle" by appointing government officials without considering the country's ethnic diversity and clear about where the direction this country should be directed to.

Dr Ekuru's push is transparent and clear as crystal can be believed. He was the Secretary of the Committee of Experts (CoE), revealed   he will be seeking the Presidency in next year's General Elections and terms the "mutilation" of the country's supreme law the main push for his offer-ship .

In time and again interviews with Citizen TV, and other main stream media the lawyer said he feels challenged to seek presidency because the country is getting torn apart with tribalism and what he described as run-away corruption.

"I worked so hard on this Constitution... but it is no longer tenable for me... to keep watching it being mutilated. I am going to offer myself as a presidential candidate for Thirdway Alliance. We are coming as a tribe less movement,"

Turning the tide against AIDS will require more concentrated focus on adolescents and young people

In 2014, about 2.0 million adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19 were living with HIV worldwide. Adolescents account for about 5 per cent of all people living with HIV and about 12 per cent of new adult HIV infections. Regions with the highest numbers of HIV-positive adolescents are sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Of the 2.0 million adolescents living with HIV, about 1.6 million (82 per cent) live in sub-Saharan Africa.

AIDS is the leading cause of death among adolescents (10-19) in Africa and the second leading cause of death among adolescents globally. AIDS-related deaths among adolescents have tripled since 2000 while decreasing among all other age groups, which can be largely attributed to a generation of children infected with HIV perinatally who are growing into adolescence without access to life-saving interventions. About half of adolescents (15-19) living with HIV are in just six countries: South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, India, Mozambique and Tanzania.

Every hour, 26 adolescents (15-19) were newly infected with HIV in 2014 (220,000 total). Adolescent girls and young women are disproportionately affected by HIV in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in countries with high HIV prevalence. In sub-Saharan Africa, 7 in 10 new infections in 15-19 year olds are among girls.  To compound this, most recent data indicate that only 11 per cent of adolescents aged 15-19 in sub-Saharan Africa have been tested for HIV in the past 12 months. However, HIV remains a global issue when it comes to prevention among adolescents. Almost 40 per cent of new HIV infections among adolescents (15-19) occurred outside sub-Saharan Africa. If current trends continue, hundreds of thousands more will become HIV-positive in the coming years.

WHAT IS NEEDED TO TURN THE TIDE

ALL IN to #EndAdolescentAIDS is a platform for action and collaboration to drive better results with and for adolescents (aged 10-19 years) through critical changes in programmes and policy. It aims to unite actors across sectors to accelerate reductions in AIDS-related deaths by 65 per cent and new HIV infections among adolescents by 75 per cent by 2020, and thus set the global AIDS movement on track to end the AIDS epidemic among adolescents by 2030.

All IN is strengthening partnerships across sectors and fostering meaningful involvement of adolescents in all aspects of programming and advocacy for adolescents, while providing an opportunity to support countries to improve data collection, analysis and utilization for programme planning and M&E.

According to UNAIDS estimates, HIV incidence has fallen in many of the most severely affected countries because adolescents and young people are adopting safer sexual practices. In several countries, risk behaviour is on the decline, including the initiation of sex before age 15, sex with multiple partners and sex without condoms.

In countries with generalized epidemics, schools can be a critical venue for reaching adolescents with the information and skills they need to avoid infection. In fact, evidence shows that school-based sex education can be effective in changing the knowledge, attitudes and practices that lead to risk behaviour.

Preventing HIV in countries with low prevalence or where the epidemic is concentrated in specific populations is especially challenging since the spread of the virus is fueled by high-risk, often stigmatized behaviour. People who engage in such behaviour tend to be young and include sex workers, people who inject drugs and men who have
